Outlook Express Walk-through
How do I set up my email in Outlook Express?
The following is a walk-through for setting up Outlook Express.
Go to ‘Tools’ -> ‘Accounts…’ -> ‘Add…’
Display Name: (as you wish) //Next ->
Email Address: (xxxx@domain.com) //Next ->
My incoming mail server is a [POP3] Server.
Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, HTTP) server: [yourdomain.com]
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server:
[yourdomain.com or your ISP SMTP server settings*]
Account Name: (xxxx@domain.com) (same as email address.
Password: as appropriate
Log in Using Secure Password Authentication is NOT checked.
Click ‘Next’ and ‘Finished’
Click ‘Properties’ -> ‘Servers’ Tab
*Make sure ‘My Server requires authentication IS checked ON if you’re using our SMTP Server settings. Otherwise contact your ISP.
Click Apply, OK, OK.
and test the email. If it does not work, try your ISP settings for Sending email.
Setting up Outlook for Email
How do I setup my email in Outlook?
Outlook is similar to Outlook Express.
Go to ‘Tools’ -> ‘Email Accounts’ -> ‘Add a new e-mail account’ -> ‘POP3′
User Information:
Your Name: [as you wish]
E-mail address: [you@yourdomain.com]
Server Information:
Incoming mail server (POP3): yourdomain.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): yourdomain.com or your ISPs SMTP Server settings.
Logon Information:
User Name: [full email address (example: you@yourdomain.com)]
Password: [email account password]
Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT checked.
Click ‘More Settings …’ -> ‘Outgoing Server’ Tab.
‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ IS checked.
(use same settings as…) is checked. (NOTE: not all ISP allow you to use SMTP servers that are not their own, so you may be required to use the settings for sending email they provide.)
Click ‘OK’ and you’re finished.
If you want the port settings for the Advanced tab in the settings, the standard ports are usually already filled in and work fine without changes; port 25 for SMTP, port 110 for POP, port 143 for IMAP. Your server may also have an alternate port 26 or 587 open for SMTP if your ISP blocks port 25.
Webmail Access for created email accounts
How do I check email for my created email accounts?
You can access webmail in any of the following ways:
http://yourdomain.com/webmail/
http://yourdomain.com:2095
https://yourdomain.com:2096 (secure)
Note: replace ‘yourdomain.com’ with your actual domain name.
You will be prompted with a user/pass dialog box.
For the username you will use the full email address and the appropriate password for that email account.
example:
user: you@yourdomain.com
pass: yourpassword
You will then see a page with 2 options to choose your webmail client.
Horde, or Squirrel Mail.
You also have the options:
[Change Password] [Forwarding Options] [Autoresponder Options]
You can modify those as you please.
Ports 2095 and 2096 must be available to use webmail. If you are behind a firewall such as at work, webmail may not be available unless they open those ports.
IMAP support
Do you support IMAP?
Yes we do*
) Make sure you have ident enabled and that you/your isp do not block it.
) Port 143 must be open if you have a firewall.
) Our servers have a simultaneous connection limit based on IP. If you have issues connecting to multiple accounts or from multiple systems behind a router, please email info@tempocreative.com to request the limit be increased. There is an upper maximum on this limit, so we may not be able to honor your request
See our FAQs on setting up your email client. You will need to choose IMAP rather than POP3 in the settings at the beginning of setup. Pay attention and look for a drop down list, radio button, etc. to choose.
* Please note that IMAP functionality is not supported at this time on Windows hosting plans due to restrictions in licensing.
Email Attachment size
What is the maximum size of an email attachment?
There is a 10mb restriction on sending and receiving attachments per email message. The total size of each email our customers can receive including headers, the body, and attachments is limited to 50 Megs.
If you have attachments larger than 10 megs, please upload them to a subfolder of public_html on your account instead and create an FTP account in FTP Manager to provide access only to that subfolder for other people or you may upload to a password protected subfolder and provide the login and URLs to the other person(s).
Your account can store as many email addresses and emails as your plan’s limits will allow.
You may also need to increase the Quota limit on your email address to prevent the mailbox becoming full. The default email account quota is 10 megs. You can change this limit by going to your cPanel and clicking on Mail, then Manage/Add/Remove Accounts. Click on Change Quota next to the email address to be changed. Please set to an actual high enough number and not “unlimited” which tends to cause issues.
Understanding Email
I’m new to the Internet. Can you explain email to me?
Email is the electronic equivalent of postal mail though much faster. What would have taken 3 days to send now takes seconds. Email makes up the biggest part of traffic on the Internet. Documents, music, programs, greeting cards, mailing lists, catalogs, etc. can all be sent by email now as attachments.
With this power and flexibility also comes scammers, spammers, viruses, and spy programs. It is up to you to use email responsibly. Be careful about who you give your email address to, don’t open attachments from people you don’t know if you don’t have to, don’t click on links in email particularly for services like Ebay or PayPal or a bank, run current antivirus software on your computer, use spam or nanny software if you have young children using email.
The Internet as a whole works through a mutual understanding and agreement of millions of computers who relay Internet traffic including email. If any one node goes down, a section of the Internet may go down though there are numerous routes around such situations. It is also possible for email to be intercepted because of this so don’t say anything in email you wouldn’t say in public.
When you send an email, it is automatically addressed as having come from the address you entered in the settings of your program. Be sure this address is valid and kept up to date so recipients can reply to you. We see numerous replies from our support desk bounce due to invalid addresses. Be sure the address of the recipient is correct. Quite often a letter or period is left out. If the receiving server is down for any reason, email is usually cached and held until the server is back in service. This is also true for computers sending or relaying mail and why sometimes mail is received several days after it is sent.
Email sent to addresses that do not exist in sites we do host will be sent to the default email box for the site which is controlled by the Default Address in Cpanel.
FormMail
How do I configure formmail?
Due to abuse by spammers, we have had to stop the use of formmail on our servers. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
For email forms we recommend using the nms scripts at http://nms-cgi.sourceforge.net/scripts.shtml because they were written to be more secure, using strict settings. It does come with instructions and we do have how-tos on these scripts in our How-Tos forum at http://lunarforums.com
Do not name your script using the words mail, formmail, or contact. Our servers are contantly being scanned for these names and if a form is found with these names it will be disabled. You will need to change the name of the nms scripts to follow this as well.
Be sure the path to perl in the script is /usr/bin/perl and that the script is uploaded to cgi-bin in ASCII mode. Permission should be set to 755. You may edit and change permissions in Cpanel, File Manager by clicking on the filename and choosing Edit or Change Permissions from the menu in the upper right. File Manager may or may not upload the script in the right mode. You may need to upload with an FTP program and tell the program to upload in ASCII mode. You can also change permissions with an FTP program.
Remote Access
Can I Access my email when I’m away from my computer?
Yes, you may use webmail at:
- https://yourdomain.com:2096 (secure)
- https://servername.lunarpages.com:2096 (secure)
- http://servername.lunarpages.com:2095
Webmail without Cpanel
Do I have to give all my email accounts access to cpanel? How can users access webmail without going through cpanel?
Your users do not have to go through cpanel
If you domain name has propagated, use http://domain.com/webmail (change domain.com to your domain). Prior to that you can use http://server.lunarpages.com/webmail where server is your server name. At the prompt box which comes up, the user must enter the following:
User Name: the full email address (myemail@domain.com)
Password: the password for the email account in question
You can restrict which email program your webmail users are allowed to use by doing the following:
- Login to CPanel
- Click on “Subdomains”
- You will see a blank form to fill out with one next to it saying “.domainname.com”. In that blank spot enter what you want to use as your subdomain. For example, “webmail”. It may take a minute so be patient!
- Once you get a confirmation message, click the “go back” link (do not use the back button!).
- In the line below the one you just filled out, select the webmail.yourdomain.com in the box and click on “Setup Redirection”.
- In the page that loads next enter one of the following URLs for the program you want users to be able to access. The trailing slash must be used:
- Horde:
http://www.domain.com:2095/horde/index.php/ - Squirrel Mail:
http://www.domain.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/index.php
The address for Squirrelmail does not work with the trailing slash
- Horde:
- Click on “Save”.
- Try and access webmail.yourdomain.com Login with your username and password, you should automatically be at the program of your choice!
E-mail Forwarding
What is E-mail Forwarding and how can i use it?
Email forwarding let’s you forward email sent to an addresss to another address or multiple addresses. It allows you to look more professional by creating separate department addresses for a business and forwarding all of their emails to one or more other boxes which can then filter and organize based on those addresses. It allows you to forward mail to an external address at another host or ISP, it allows you to send copies of a message to multiple addresses, etc. It can also come in handy to forward mail to another person while you are on vacation.
Forwards are setup in Cpanel under Mail => Forwarders.
Normally, a forward will just forward the message. Sometimes, though, it may retain a copy in the forwarded box. To avoid this, you can setup a forward for an email box that does not actually exist in your domain, one that you haven’t created.
To forward to multiple addresses, use a comma to separate the addresses. ie mailbox1@mydomain.com,mailbox2@somedomain.com
To force an email account you have created to keep a copy and forward a copy, set up a forwarder under Forwarders as mailbox1@mydomain.com>>>\mailbox1,mailbox2@wherever.com The backslash is what makes it work.
Additional Domains
Can additional domains receive e-mail?
Yes. You can create an unlimited number of email addresses for addon
domains, parked domains, and subdomains. The email addresses for these
can be created in the Mail section of your site’s cPanel, under
Add/Remove Addresses. The addon, parked, or subdomain to create the
email address in must be selected from the drop down box shown while
creating a new address.
.procmailrc
Do you support .procmailrc?
We don’t support .procmailrc but you can upload a .forward file to your home directory with the standard Exim filter syntax. Make sure the first line is “# Exim filter” or it’ll be ignored.
Custom MX Records
I want to set up my own mail server. How do I change my MX Records?
You can email info@tempocreative.com with your username, last four digits of your credit card number, and the entry to be added to your MX record. Please note that although we can change the entries, we cannot assist you with setting up your mail server.
JAMES (Email Server)
Do you support JAMES?
No, we do not support or offer JAMES. We already run Exim for email service on our servers. Running JAMES would require a dedicated server.

3rd Party SMTP blocking
I am getting errors when I try to use my domain to send emails using my email client, but I can send just fine with my ISP SMTP settings. What is wrong?
Over the last few years, more and more ISP’s have started to require their subscribers to use their SMTP server to send mail. This allows them to monitor spammers, and help to reduce to the overwhelming amounts of spam and exploitation that occurs daily with email. You may want to contact your ISP to see if they are willing to work with you on this issue or try port 587 or 26 which may be open on our servers. We can open an alternate port (587 or 26) on the server if necessary if you email support@lunarpages.com.
If you can not send email using our servers, check on this list below for your ISP or perform the test listed below. Provided with each ISP that blocks, is their respective SMTP server setting.
This list has been compiled by the Support staff over the last year. It is not an official release of ISPs that require that there clients use their SMTP servers, however, it is as accurate as possible at this time.
Testing SMTP server access:
1.) Access a command line (in Windows, Click Start -> Run, and then type in CMD; on a MAC, use the Terminal application in the Applications/Utilities folder.)
2.) Type in TELNET DOMAIN.COM 25 (replace DOMAIN.COM with your actual domain name)
If you are not being blocked from your ISP, you should see the following message:
220-yourserver.lunarpages.com ESMTP Exim 4.34 #1 Fri, 02 Jul 2004 13:20:48 -0700
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.
If you do not see this error message, your ISP is very likely blocking the ability to send mail through servers other than theirs.

Webmail without cPanel 2 - Alternative Method
Do I have to give all my email accounts access to cpanel?
How can users access webmail without going through cpanel?
Can I create a subdomain that redirects to webmail?
How can I direct webmail.mydomain.com to Horde, or squirrelmail?
The following is an alternate method to create redirection for a subdomain to redirect to webmail client directly.
First you need to create the subdomain that you want to have redirect to your chosen or preferred Webmail client.
To do this follow these steps:
1. Login in to your cpanel interface.
2. Select the Subdomain option, and create the subdomain. (ex: webmail.yourdomain.com)
3. Once it has been created, go to the File Manager option of the cPanel.
4. Navigate to public_html by selecting the folder image beside the text ‘public_html’
5. Navigate to the folder that was create by your subdomain. (in the case of the example it would be the ‘webmail‘ folder)
6. Once inside this directory, you will either see or need to create an .htaccess file.
*if it is not there proceed to step a: (if it already exists proceed to step d)
a. create it by selecting the ‘Create New File‘ option.
b. a menu appears in the top right corner of the File Manager interface. Choose ‘Text Document‘ and call it:
‘.htaccess‘ without the quotes.
c. File Manager will now refresh and you will then see your new file in the listing of that directory.
d. click on the text title for the .htaccess file on the left side of the screen, and a menu appears in the top right of the screen.
e. choose the ‘Edit File‘ option. a new window opens.
f. add the following lines:
To Redirect to the Horde Webmail Client:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^webmail.yourdomain.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.webmail.yourdomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://yourdomain.com:2095/horde/$1 [R=301,L]
To Redirect to the Squirrel Mail Client:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^webmail.yourdomain.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.webmail.yourdomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://yourdomain.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/index.php$1 [R=301,L]
*NOTE: replace ‘yourdomain.com‘ above with your actual domain name.*
g. go to the bottom of the page and click ‘Save‘
h. now go test the subdomain in your browser.
Everything should be setup and fully functional.
You can also use a secure login to the webmail as well, for the line:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://yourdomain.com:2095/horde/$1 [R=301,L]
change this to:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://yourdomain.com:2096/horde/$1 [R=301,L]
same applies for Squirrel Mail:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://yourdomain.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/index.php$1 [R=301,L]
change this to:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://yourdomain.com:2096/3rdparty/squirrelmail/index.php$1 [R=301,L]

Default Email Address (cPanel username)
This applies if you have changed your Default Mail Address to “:fail: no such address here” or anything other than the cPanel username.
An example:
You have changed your default email address to another address, for example blah@yourdomain.com. All email sent directly to your cpaneluser@yourdomain.com should arrive in the blah@yourdomain.com inbox, correct?
Actually, this is not correct. You’ll notice this is now returned as an “unrouteable mail address”
This is a common question, and many users don’t understand why.
The simple answer is this: (using my account/domain as the example)
In actuality the “Main” email account is listed in cpanel as simply ‘cpaneluser’. This is because that email account is actually recognized by the server as cpaneluser@server.lunarpages.com rather than cpaneluser@yourdomain.com. That email address is really an alias, and not a created email on the domain.
For this reason, when changing the “default address” in the cPanel > Mail > Default Address option to something else, such as blah@yourdomain.com, will result in all mail to cpaneluser@yourdomain.com being returned as unrouteable to the sender.
I hope this helps clarify this situation.
On another note: the default address should be set to an address you have actually created on your domain to make that address the catchall address or “:fail: no such address here” to bounce messages to accounts you have not created or “:blackhole:” to delete messages to accounts you have not created (without the quotes).
To send all email to an outside address, create a forward for the default address under Mail, Forwarders in Cpanel.
If you require further clarification on this situation please contact support@lunarpages.com and we will be happy to assist you.
How to setup auto-responses
How do I setup Auto-responders for my email?
In your cPanel,
go to Mail > Autoresponders. Click on Add AutoResponder. Fill out the form with:
Email: enter the account name and choose the right domain Hint: If you do not create a forwarder or email account with the same address as this auto responder, mail sent to this autoresponder will only be handled by the autoresponder before it is discarded.
From: You can type in your account address or any other but if you put a bad address or just a name, it will likely get tagged as spam and they may not see it. Use %from% to insert the sender’s address.
Subject: You can put Re: %subject% as in a usual reply-to or your own Subject such as “On Vacation”
Character Set: US-Ascii for English or choose a different set for other languages if needed.
HTML Message: Check the box to send as an HTML message. This will allow you to use HTML codes in your message.
Body: Type in your message including any html tags you want to use. You can design it in a web design program then view and copy the source to paste in here. The html tags are not necessary.
Click on Create/Modify to finish. Send a message to the address to test.
If you have any further questions contact us at support@lunarpages.com.
How to Backup Email Filters & Forwarders
How do I backup my Email Filters and Forwarders?
You can backup the forwarders (aliases) you have created and the email filters just in case of a server error or an accidental keystroke. In Cpanel, go to Backup. At the bottom, you will see tables for Aliases and Filters. Click on the domain name or subdomain under the item you wish to backup. This will create a file that you can download to your computer for safekeeping and easy restoration. To restore, just use the restore facility which is also there under Backups.
We highly recommend that you create and keep your own backups, particularly if you have gone to the trouble to create a complicated set of filters or forwarders.
Blocking Executable Attachments
Is there a way that I can filter out all messages that contain executable attachments?
We don’t have functionality build into CPanel filters to enable you to block .exe and other binary files at the source.
If you are comfortable with low level editing you can edit your filter file by hand via CPanel Backup, and then insert the .exe filter and restore the filter file from the CPanel -> Backup area. We don’t officially support this, but you should be able to find user assistance on our community support forums:

Setting up IMAP with Mac Mail OS X10.3
How do I set up IMAP with Mac Mail OS X10.3?
1. Go to menu Mail, Preferences, then click the Accounts tab.
2. Click the plus sign to add a new account.
3. Settings:
Account Information Sub-Tab:
- Account Type: IMAP
- Description: Any description you want
- Email Address: (sub-email)@yourdomain.com
- Full Name: Your name - Incoming Mail server: yourdomain.com
- User Name: (sub-email)@yourdomain.com
- Password: sub-email’s password
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): yourdomain.com — If yourdomain.com isn’t listed, create it thus: — Select “Add Server…” — Type in “yourdomain.com” — Leave the port alone (25) –
- For authentication, select “password” –
- User name is (sub-email)@yourdomain.com, password is sub-email’s password
Special Mailboxes Sub-Tab:
- Set items to your preferences.
OS X will automatically create IMAP mailboxes underneath your sub-email as needed to store Drafts, Sent mail, Junk, or Trash mailboxes.
Advanced Sub-Tab:
- Check “Enable this account”
- Check “Include when automatically checking for new mail”
- A good idea is to set “Keep copies of messages” to “All messages and their attachments”: this way you always have a copy of your email on your client computer.
- Nothing else in here needs to be set. (Authentication should still show “Password”). Possibly you want to click “Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes”, but in my experience with other IMAP hosts, this is not really needed.
Click away from your new email account by clicking a different toolbar icon in the Accounts window. You will be asked to Save the account. Click yes, and OS X should automatically check it and add it to the “In” mailbox.
Extracting e-mail headers
How do I extract the headers from an e-mail message?
How do I extract the email headers from common email clients?
How do I view the email headers in common email clients?
Outlook Express 4,5,6
Start by opening the message in its own window (or when viewing the message in the preview pane). Then:
with the keyboard:
- CTRL-F3 (Message Source Window)
- CTRL-A (select all)
- CTRL-C (copy)
- ALT-F4 (close)
With the mouse:
- Click the “File” menu
- Click “Properties”
- Click the “Details” tab
- Click “Message Source”
- Highlight, copy and paste everything from this window (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C)
With viruses, worms and trojans being spread via email, many users now work with the preview screen in Outlook Express turned off. Viewing the contents of email in the preview screen is no different than opening the message. If the email has malicious content, it may execute in the preview screen.
The following is instructions to obtain the full message source if you have the preview panel turned off:
Using the keyboard:
- Highlight the message in the folder
- Press alt + enter - this will open a message information window
- Press Ctrl + Tab - this changes to the “Details” tab
- Press Alt + m - the opens the message source
- Press Ctrl + a - to select all the text
- Press Ctrl + c - to copy the selected text to the clipboard
- Press Alt + F4 - to close the message source window
- Press the Esc key - to close the information window
Outlook 97
Microsoft Outlook 97 may require an update called the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch in order to display the email headers AT ALL.
Outlook 98 and 2000
- Open the message in a separate window (double click)
- Under the View menu select Options
- Copy the text in the Internet Headers window (unfortunately it doesn’t include the message itself).
- Paste
- Close the options window
Microsoft Exchange
- To get the complete headers and message source using Microsoft Exchange Click the “File” menu
- Click “Properties”
- Click the “Details” tab
- Click “Message Source”
- Highlight, copy and paste everything from the “Message Source” window (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C)
Netscape
Preferred method: Click on the “View” menu, then “Page Source,” (ctrl-U in windows, meta-U in UNIX,Cmd-U on the Mac) then copy the contents of the window (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C windows).
Old versions: Click on the “View” menu, then “Headers,” then “All.” Note: This method will not work correctly with HTML.
Thunderbird
- Open the message in a seperate window (double click)
- Under the View menu select “headers” … “all”
- Click the “Forward” button to forward the email to a third party
- Either view the message as is (with full headers) to the required address
- Or: select the headers and copy-paste into a new message
- Close the message windows
Eudora
Note: Using the cut and paste to the web form method is the only option available to Eudora users. To display the full message source for cut and paste:
Eudora - there are 2 slightly different methods depending on whether the mail contains HTML or not.
In any case, to prepare for HTML email, you should turn off the use of Microsoft’s HTML viewer. To do so, click Tools, then Options, then Viewing Mail. Uncheck the box labeled “Use Microsoft’s viewer.”
How to know if it’s HTML mail: once you have opened the email, look near the bottom of the headers (see below for revealing headers) for a line like the following: Content-Type: text/html … you can frequently spot HTML email because it has font effects, pictures, etc but this is not always true so you have to take a quick look at the headers.
Eudora - non-HTML mail:
- Open the email by double clicking on the subject line. Click the button to reveal the headers.
- Place your cursor anywhere in the body of the email and select the entire message (Edit/Select All or Ctrl-A)
- Copy the entire email (right click and click copy OR Ctrl/C OR Edit/Copy)
- Paste (right click/paste or Ctrl/V).
Eudora - HTML mail:
- Open the email and click the button to reveal the headers.
- Highlight the headers only. Copy and paste the headers.
- Hit enter twice after the pasted headers to force a blank line after the headers.
- Back in Eudora window, place your cursor anywhere in the body of the message and right click and click “view source”. A new window will open.
- In the new window, select all (as above) and copy the contents of the new window.
- Paste.
Pine
If the feature is enabled, you simply press “H” to toggle full headers. If the feature is not enabled, you must enable it first: From the main menu, press (S)etup, (C)onfig. Scroll down about 40 lines to the option labeled “enable-full-header-cmd.” Press [ENTER]. Press (E)xit, (Y)es - to save. Then you can return to the message window and use “H” to display the headers.
Lotus Notes (v4.x and v5.x)
Open the email, click on “Actions” then on “Delivery Information.”
Next, you have to pick out the internet-style mail header information from the window that appears when you select Delivery Information.
Lotus Notes v.4.x
Look for the first line that begins with “Received”. There should be a blank line just above it. Then, scroll down to the next blank line. The stuff in-between the two blank lines are the headers you need.
Lotus Notes v.5.x
Look for the separator line that reads
——– Additional Header ——
Select everything from there down to the next separator line, usually
——– Routing Information ——
The stuff in between the two separator lines are the headers you need.
Lotus Notes v.5.x (easier method)
- Open your inbox
- Highlight the message that you wish to get header information for.
- Choose File -> Export…
- Type in a filename, leave the type as “Structured Text” and click Export
- From the Dialog Box that comes up, choose “Selected Documents” and click OK
- Now you can open that message you saved in WordPad and Cut and Paste it.
Pegasus Mail
In the New Mail or other folder window:
- Right click the message, and select Message Properties.
- In the right hand column uncheck the box beside Contains HTML data.
- Click OK. That should allow you to see the message as a text message only.
- Click Ctrl-H to bring up the full headers.
Another way:
- Highlight the HTML in the new mail folder
- Open a new email message
- Drag the HTML onto the new message
- In the dialog that appears select “Show All Headers”
- Highlight the entire message, then copy to clipboard
- Paste
Kmail (KDE Desktop)
In the KDE Mail Client that comes with the KDE desktop for Linux, select Message, View Source. Copy and paste the text from the “Message as Plain Text” window.
How to create an announce-only mailing list
How do I make an “Announce Only” newsletter with Mailman 2.1.x?
While Mailman is best suited for a discussion “listserv”, it is not difficult to configure it to operate as an announce-only newsletter-style mailing list.
First, go to:
http://www.yourdomain.com/mailman/admin/yourlistname
where “yourdomain” is your domain name and “yourlistname” is the name of your mailing list (the part to the left of the @ symbol in the list’s email address).
Enter the list administrative password and click the “Let me in” button. Configure the following settings:
Privacy Options >> Subscription Rules
Who can view subscription list? (List admin only)
Privacy Options >> Sender Filters
By default, should new list member postings be moderated? (Yes)
Action to take when a moderated member posts to the list. (Hold)
Action to take for postings from non-members for which no explicit action is defined. (Hold)
Auto-responder settings
Should Mailman send an auto-response to mailing list posters? (Yes)
Auto-response text to send to mailing list posters:
“Sorry, only the site administrator can post to this list.”
Number of days between auto-responses: (0)
Membership Management >> Membership List
Set everyone’s moderation bit, including those members not currently visible (On)
Now that everyone has their moderation bit on (which means their posts are subject to moderator approval) and “Action to take when a moderated member posts to the list” is Hold, the administrator will have to approve their own posts. You could turn off the moderation bit for moderators’ email addresses, but this is not very secure because email addresses can be easily forged.
You can customize these settings as you like, but to prevent unauthorized people from posting to you list, always have their moderation bit(flag) on. You should always keep “By default, should new list member postings be moderated?” set to “Yes” so new members are also moderated.
IMAP folder values
I’m using Outlook Express 6. Setting the special folder values under the IMAP
tab in the account properties to ‘Drafts’ and ‘Sent’ does not cause them to
show up in the folder view.
You need to leave the Root Folder value blank, in order to let the server provide the necessary information.
Webmail - forwarding basics
I have an email address which is forwarded to a yahoo account that currently has 6 MB of e-mail but the ‘inbox’ file in lunarpages for the same account is 150 MB. How can this be? This makes me think that even deleting messages within yahoo still doesn’t delete them from the mail file in lunarpages.
First of all, I think I should explain about setting up mail forwarding since this is where most of the problems you’ve experience have stemmed from. When you set up an e-mail forwarder on your Lunarpages account, you do not also have to create a corresponding email address for the same email address under Add/Remove email accounts. If you do set up an e-mail address under Add/Remove email accounts but also set it up to forward to a different address, you will have mail saved on the Lunarpages server at the same time as having it forwarded to a different email account such as a Hotmail account or a Yahoo account. In this case, even if you delete your received email on the Yahoo or Hotmail account, your email on the Lunarpages server will remain intact because it is a separate account. You will need to explicitly logon to your Lunarpages account on the Lunarpages server and delete the accumulated emails which are taking up space on the server. Some people actually prefer this method.
However, if all you need is to have an email address under your domain which forwards to an existing email address somewhere else, all you need to do is set up a Forwarder - you do not have to also create an account on the server by going through Add/Remove Accounts. So, if you currently have both a forwarder and an account created under Add/Remove Accounts, you should be able to go through Add/Remove Accounts and remove that particular account so that it does not continue to take up space on the server through accumulated emails.
Some people howevever, do not like keeping their email on a web server. They like to download the email to their own machine’s hard disk so that they will have access to the email even if they are offline. This is usually called “downloading your email”. While opening up your webmail account and looking at your email does download the email, it does not keep a permanent copy for you. You can retain a permanent copy on your hard disk by using an email client like Outlook, Outlook Express or Eudora which can download a permanent copy of the email to your hard disk. You can even configure the email client in such a way that it still leaves a copy of the email on the web server but this is not adviseable since all the messages left on the server will eat into your allocated web space over time.
SpamAssassin / Spam Box
How do I enable SpamAssassin (and/or Spam Box for my account?
To enable SpamAssassin, log into your cPanel, and choose mail. Choose Spamassassin (3rd up from the bottom). Click on Enable SpamAssassin to turn SpamAssassin on for your account. SpamAssassin is now working.
You can also enable Spam Box. Spam Box is a place for SpamAssassin to put all email flagged to be spam. From there you can delete the spam, or if there is a “false positive” (an email flagged as spam, but isn’t) you can move it out of the Spam Box, and not delete it. Please read the description for Spam Box. If you do not monitor the folder, it can quickly fill up with spam and possibly take you over your quota. If you would like a more in depth look at SpamAssassin, please read the following thread at our forum;

Antivirus and Spam Scanning
Can your shared servers filter incoming/outgoing email for viruses and spam?
We don’t scan your email for viruses. Customers are expected to have current antivirus on their own computers.
We do provide Spam Assassin free in Cpanel under Mail. Spam Assassin will catch many but not all viruses and spam coming in. It can be trained to scan even better. http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=13960.0
You can also create email filters in Cpanel under Mail, Email Filtering and if you set your Default Address under Mail to :fail: or :blackhole:, emails to email accounts you have not actually created will be bounced or deleted. Spammers and viruses often fake addresses on a domain to send to you.
There are some commonly used email addresses you may want to avoid such as info, sales, admin, and webmaster. Spammers often try those.
SPF for Email (Sender Policy Framework)
Do you support SPF (Sender Policy Framework) for my email accounts?
Yes we do support SPF, not in the MTA, but we do in the DNS Zone.

Shared E-mail Sending Limits
What is Your E-mail Sending Limits?
On our shared web hosting plans (Basic, Business and Windows) there is a limit of how many e-mails can be sent. This would be 500-600 per hour and 20 per minute.
This is to help prevent spamming as well as server blacklisting. If you need to funnel out the way your e-mail is being sent, we suggest using a mailing list program such as:
DadaMail - http://dadamailproject.com/
PHPList - http://www.phplist.com/
Both of these scripts allow you to spread out your sending of e-mail messages to a group of people so you stay within your account boundaries.
